What My Clients Say about Me

I have been to Obelisk Pilates for four years now, following major back surgery. My original goal was to “walk upright, in a straight line without doddering” but I have far exceeded that goal and gained strength and flexibility in the process. Vy has developed a program that suits my needs and deals with my specific challenges. I highly recommend this program to anyone with mobility issues. James Wilsford Austin, Texas

I have been taking Pilates with Vy now for 3 years. I go twice a week. She has taught me to use my core, synchronize my breathing with my core, and exercise muscles I hardly ever use. She is knowledgeable and professional and a ray of light in my week! Vy’s Pilates class has been absolutely life-altering. With my profession, I do hard physical labor. I was having a lot of shoulder and back pain. This is the first time in over 20 years that I have been pain free. I look so forward to my workouts every week and am committed to my physical well being. Vy makes is so much fun too!! I highly recommend her as a teacher of Pilates.
We have worked with LanVy for a year, and we are impressed by her energy, her meticulous attention to detail, and her consummate professionalism. She carefully adjusts her routines to our individual abilities. She is extremely knowledgeable about both the techniques of Pilates and the workings of anatomy. She never misses an opportunity to refine her own training and pass on the results to us. Even when we are less than competent early in the morning, her infectious enthusiasm and her warm smile make a wonderful start to the day.

I've been working with Vy for about a year now. Immediately she was able to notice things about my posture and my body that I, myself, spent my entire life being unable to notice. the sessions we spend workout together, not only worked to tone my figure, but it corrected my posture as well. after each lesson I stand a little straighter and feel stronger and healthier. I 100% recommend her to anyone looking for a good workout, one that is enjoyable and tones you as well as building up your flexibility and posture for life long health.

I have been attending classes in yoga and Pilates at Obelisk studio for 8 years. Vy takes personal training to a whole new level. After years of yoga in various other places I didn’t have any idea that my form was wrong nor that I was supposed to be activating so many muscles on each pose. Vy keeps a sharp eye on every muscle and insures that you get the most out of every move and every session. It is amazing to learn something at every class. Her knowledge and enthusiasm of how each muscle works with every other is remarkable. After a few years of yoga, I moved into Pilates and it has been a remarkable journey. I feel strong and flexible and I am sure Vy is helping me “turn back the hands of time”!

My name is Pete Martinez, I am retired and have been a long time exercise enthusiast. For years, I have biked, run and played many sports in the spirit of having fun and staying in shape. In the last few years I have been looking for an alternative exercise option and have always had my eye on Yoga. I recently took 12 yoga lessons with Vy and found her program and teaching method to be very beneficial for me. Her knowledge of yoga and pilates, along with her knowledge of the human body allow her to focus on proper teaching mechanics and knows when and how to modify her teaching to accommodate “trouble” areas. Thank You Vy for your help! I have learned lots about Yoga and the benefits to my health. Keep up the good work!

I have been to Obelisk Pilates for six years. My goal was to always to tone, tone, tone. I wanted to try Pilates because of 4 ACL surgeries. Now with one full knee replacement, Vy has showed me how I have been stressing my knees instead of using my feet and hips to align the knees. I am 5 1/2 months in with my new knee and am already spinning, sailing competitively, and still doing Pilates. I highly recommend Vy to anyone with mobility issues.

I have been a Pilates Reformer participant at UT's Gregory Gym under the instruction and supervision of Ms Lan Vy Avent for the last 6 months. I had previously had reformer training for 3 years under several different instructors. Ms Avent is extremely communicative and skilled in explaining not only how to do an exercise but why we are doing that exercise, She is very attentive to detail and under her supervision the somewhat dilapidated reformer equipment has been thoroughly reworked and returned to fine condition. Lan Vy is very outgoing and makes our sessions interesting as well as fun. I feel that I am benefitting greatly from her exercises.
